Xanax (alprazolam) is intended for the treatment of anxiety and panic attacks. You are not supposed to start taking this medicine unless told so by your health care provider. Drowsiness, dry mouth, lightheadedness, changes in sex drive, irritability, increased salivation, weight changes, trouble urinating, tiredness and unusual talkativeness are some of the mild side effects that you can experience. If these side effects seem too bothersome to you or they change in intensity report them to your health care provider. Otherwise just carry on with the treatment and they will most probably go away on their own as your body adjusts to the medicine.
Xanax has been reported to cause drowsiness. Make sure you know for sure whether Xanax causes the same reaction in you before you drive a car or operate machinery. If you take more or less of Xanax this may affect the success of your treatment. Do not change the dosage of Xanax that your have been prescribed or stop the treatment abruptly. If you suddenly stop taking this drug, especially if you have been taking it for a long time or in large doses the following withdrawal symptoms may be experienced: insomnia, irritability, seizures and anxiousness.
